Everything about Beudant

Beudant measures your dressage, show jumping and cross-country videos. This page explains everything, from creating your account to reading the analyses. Beudant is in beta: today, you create your account and upload your videos; the model is learning from the videos we receive, and we will get back to you as soon as an analysis is ready.

1. Getting started in three steps

  1. Create your account (Create my account) and choose its type: yard, family, individual rider, coach or owner.
  2. Add your riders and your horses in your space ("Riders" and "Horses" tabs). An "individual rider" account already has its rider.
  3. Upload a video in the "Analyses" tab, if possible with the photos of the score sheet (dressage) or the official result (show jumping, cross-country).

To film in the best conditions, see the How to film page.

2. Account types

TypeFor whomWhat it contains
YardA yard or a riding clubSeveral riders and several horses, under the yard's name.
FamilyParents of young ridersSeveral riders (brothers and sisters) and their horses or ponies.
Individual riderA self-managed riderTheir rider profile and their horses.
CoachCoachesTheir students and the videos the students share with them.
OwnerThe owner of a horse who does not ride itThe horses they (co-)own and the tests the rider shares with them (see below).

One e-mail address and one password per account. You can change the name and phone number in the "Account" tab.

3. Riders and horses

Riders

For each rider: first name, last name, discipline and level. Minor rider: enter their legal guardian and the guardian's consent; it is required before any use of the rider's videos to improve the model.

Horses

For each horse: name, sex, coat colour, date (or year) of birth, stud-book, sire and dam, SIRE no., markings, height and usual rider (suggested automatically when uploading). Four photos help recognise it in the videos: left profile, right profile, front and back.

4. Uploading a video

  1. "Analyses" tab → "Send a video".
  2. Choose the rider, the horse and the discipline: Dressage (including eventing dressage), Show jumping (including eventing show jumping), Cross-country or Hunter. The form adapts to the discipline.
  3. Enter the test or the class, the date, and whether it was training or a competition.
  4. Choose the original video from the gallery, or paste a WeTransfer, Google Drive, iCloud or Dropbox link.
  5. Add the score sheet (dressage) or the course plan and the result (show jumping, cross-country), then tap "Send video".

Keep the page open during the upload. The video is sent in small chunks: if the connection drops, tap "Send video" again with the same file and the upload resumes where it stopped, without duplicates.

In dressage, a test lasts at least one minute: a shorter video is refused. In show jumping and cross-country, a short clip (one line, one fence) is accepted.

Horse not yet registered

In the list of horses, choose "+ Other horse (type its name)" and type its name. You can complete its record later. On the video card, Beudant suggests records with a similar name, even with a different spelling ("Mistik" for "Mystik des Vents", "Lexik" for "Lexique"): choose the right record and tap "Link", or create the record. All videos entered under that name are linked at once, and the name is kept as an "other name" of the horse: future entries will be linked automatically. In the horse's record, the "Other names" field also takes its nickname ("Moustique") and its competition name.

Completing or correcting after sending

Horse record completed by the score sheet or the official result. When the score sheet or the official result gives more information about the horse than your account (full name, year of birth, stud-book, sire, dam, SIRE no.…), the video card shows "The score sheet gives more information about your horse": a table compares what is in your account with what is suggested. Tick the rows to use, then tap "Update the record", or "Ignore". For example, a horse entered as "Manathan" becomes "Manhattan d'Hima", born in 2022, stud-book PFS, by Usandro Tilia Derlenn out of Alba Stella d'Haryns; the old name is kept in the "other names". If the horse does not have a record yet, it is created and the videos entered under the same name are linked to it. Nothing is changed without your consent, and an ignored suggestion is not shown again.

On each video's card, "Edit / complete" lets you change the test, the date or the horse, enter the result by hand, and add or replace the score sheet photos or the course plan.

5. Why the original video?

The analysis relies on fine details: footfalls, strides, amplitude, regularity. A video sent through WhatsApp, Messenger, e-mail or a social network is compressed: it loses much of this detail. It is still accepted, but the measurements are less precise.

So send the video from the gallery of the phone that filmed it, or via a sharing link (WeTransfer, Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox): these services transfer the original file. If the selected video looks compressed, the site warns you before sending.

6. The score sheet and its automatic reading (dressage)

The score sheet is the judges' marking sheet. It often has a front and a back: select both photos together (up to 6 pages), or upload a PDF. The selection order is the page order.

Automatic reading

As soon as it is sent, Beudant reads the marks on the photos: you have nothing to copy out. It then checks the calculations: possible marks (0 to 10 in half points), sum of the marks multiplied by their coefficients, written total and percentage.

Checking by you

When the reading is ready, the "Check the score sheet reading" button appears, with the number of points to check. The photos are shown next to the marks read; highlighted rows are those where the reading is in doubt (hard-to-read handwriting, impossible mark…), and calculation inconsistencies are explained. Correct if needed, then tap "Confirm the reading": the confirmed result is the one used.

If an inconsistency comes from the sheet itself (an addition error, for example), it is kept as is and flagged: Beudant copies, it does not correct the judges.

No photo of the score sheet? The "Enter the result by hand" link lets you enter the percentage, points, placing and marks (also after sending, with "Edit / complete").

iPhone photos in HEIC format are accepted and converted automatically. If the reading did not succeed, tap "Run the reading again".

Deletion of photos after confirmation

Once the reading is confirmed, the score sheet photos are no longer needed: they are deleted automatically after a few days, during which you can still look at them. The confirmed marks are kept. Videos, however, are never deleted by this mechanism.

7. Show jumping, cross-country and hunter

For show jumping, cross-country and hunter, the video is usually filmed from the side of the course, on a phone, following the horse: that is expected. A complete round, a line or a single fence are all fine.

  • Enter the fences filmed (e.g. "7, 8a-8b" or "whole course").
  • If possible, add a photo of the course plan and the official result (penalties, time, refusals, placing).
  • Hunter: the round is judged on style; enter the judges' mark and, if possible, attach the scoring sheet.
  • Cross-country: you can add the rider's GPS track (GPX or FIT file from the watch or phone).

What is measured over time (strides between fences, rhythm, faults), the rider's position and the jumping technique are reliable. The time, distances and speed measured by Beudant are indicative: only the official timing and result count.

8. Following your analyses

ShownMeaning
Awaiting videoThe request exists, the video has not arrived yet: tap "Send video" on the card.
ProcessingThe video has been received. The model is learning: we will get back to you.
Reading the score sheetThe marks are being read from the photos (a few tens of seconds).
Check the score sheet readingThe reading is ready: check it and confirm it.
Score sheet checkedYou have confirmed the reading; the percentage used is shown.
ProcessedThe analysis is finished: its results are available on the request card.

Viewing the results

When the analysis is finished, the request switches to the "processed" status and a "Results" block appears on its card, in your space: a short summary, then the list of files (PDF sheets, possibly measurements). The "Open" button shows the file in a new tab, from which you can save it. Coaches the video is shared with see the same results.

To protect your data, each link is valid for only 15 minutes: after that, click "Open" again. These sheets are an unofficial assessment, intended for training: they do not replace the official score sheet or placings.

Beudant's assessments are given as ranges and with neutral statuses: "confirmed", "to check", "inconsistencies". Whatever cannot be measured is flagged, never invented.

Rider progress

"Riders" tab, "Progress" button on a rider's card. For the dressage tests read by Beudant, you will find:

  • the progression of tests, horse by horse: one curve per horse (one colour each), as a solid line for the Beudant reading (with its range as a band) and dotted for the official mark when you have entered it. Hover over or tap a point to see the date, the values and the engine version; "View the values" gives the full table;
  • the profile by movement family (trot, canter, walk, transitions, halts, lateral movements, figures, collective marks): each horse's average Beudant mark, to spot what is weak with all the horses;
  • the points your horses have in common (as soon as two horses have a test read): a point that comes back with several horses probably depends on the riding more than on the horse. Each point is explained simply, with suggestions for work, to be checked with your coach. Points that concern only one horse are marked as "specific" to that horse.

It is an unofficial assessment, marked according to the criteria of the FEI Dressage Judges' Manual. Beudant figures can only be compared for the same engine version: if tests were read by different versions, the progress view says so. A coach followed by the rider sees the same progress view, read-only, calculated only on the tests shared with them.

Progress over time: subscription or tokens

The latest test and the list of your tests always remain visible. Comparison over time (progression curves, profile over several tests, points your horses have in common) is part of the Progress subscription or is paid for in tokens. The progress view shows your subscription end date and your token balance. Prices will be announced; in the meantime, contact us to activate it.

Re-reading older tests when the engine changes

Beudant readings are only compared for the same engine version. When the engine changes, older videos are re-read with the new version so that your whole history stays comparable: in the progress view, the button "Have … test(s) re-read with engine …" queues them for re-reading, and each test concerned shows "re-reading requested on …". The previous reading is kept. Re-reading is included in the Progress subscription or is paid for in tokens; prices will be announced.

9. Coaches

  • Inviting your coach: "Coaches" tab, enter the rider and the coach's e-mail. If they have no account, they can create one; they then have to accept the invitation.
  • A coach can also invite a student; the student (or their family or yard account) accepts by choosing the rider concerned.
  • A rider can have several coaches, and change or remove one at any time: access is then cut off immediately.
  • Each video is shared by choice: when uploading or later, tick the coaches who can see it. Nothing is shared by default.
  • Each rider pays for their own analyses.

10. Sharing with the horse's owner

The rider is not always the owner: owner's horse, part-loan, co-ownership. The owner can follow their horse's tests, if you decide so.

  • Inviting: "Horses" tab, open the horse's record, "Horse owners" section; enter the e-mail, the role (owner or co-owner) and, if you wish, the share. Ten owners at most per horse. Beudant sends no e-mail: let the person know and give them the link shown.
  • Accepting: the person logs in with the invited address — with their usual account, or by creating an "Owner" account if they do not ride — then accepts in the "Owned horses" tab.
  • Nothing is shared by default: on each video of the horse, tick the owners who can see it. On the horse's record, the option "Automatically share new videos" ticks the accepted owners by default (you can untick them when uploading).
  • Minor rider: sharing is only possible with their legal guardian's consent, entered on the rider's record.
  • What the owner sees, read-only: for each shared test, the rider, the date, the discipline, the class, the video (link valid for 15 minutes), the published results and the official mark; and the horse's progress view, calculated only on the shared tests. They cannot change or re-share anything.
  • Removal: you can remove an owner, and they can remove themselves; access to all shared tests is cut off immediately.

11. The Beudant app

Beudant installs like an app, directly from the website, without going through an app store.

Installing

  • Android (Chrome): tap "Install the app" at the bottom of the screen, or menu ⋮ → "Install app".
  • iPhone and iPad (Safari): Share button (square with an arrow) → "Add to Home Screen" → "Add".
  • Computer (Chrome, Edge): install icon on the right of the address bar.

What the app lets you do

  • A Beudant icon on the home screen, full screen, without a browser bar.
  • Shortcuts (long press on the icon): send a video, my analyses, how to film, documentation.
  • Android: send from the gallery. Open the video (or the score sheet photos) in the gallery, tap "Share" then "Beudant": the upload page opens with the files already attached.
  • Computer: "Open with Beudant" on a video or photo file.
  • Offline: the "How to film" and "Documentation" pages remain available; a banner warns you when the connection is lost.

The iPhone does not yet allow sharing from the gallery to an app installed from a website: on iPhone, open Beudant then choose the video.

12. Beudant and the judges

Marking according to the scale and criteria of the FEI Dressage Judges' Manual (Fédération Équestre Internationale). A gap, even a large one, with the marks obtained in competition is therefore normal: Beudant is not a judge and does not replace their assessment. It provides measurements the eye cannot quantify (exact length of a halt, variation in amplitude…), identical for everyone and verifiable by watching the video again.

Beudant and competition marks

The Beudant reading applies the FEI criteria rigorously, in the same way for everyone. On the tests compared with official results, Beudant marks are generally lower than those of the day. This gap between the video reading and the mark of the day is expected: the judge on site sees what the camera does not, and the Beudant reading remains an unofficial assessment.

Engine version. Each reading is made by an identified version of the marking engine (for example "dressage 1.0"), shown in the Results block of the video. The engine evolves: the same video can be re-read by each new version, which makes it possible to compare versions with each other on the same tests.

13. Your data

  • Your videos, score sheets and information are visible only to you, and to the coaches you share them with.
  • Model improvement: when uploading, an optional box lets you agree that the video (and the score sheet) may be used, in pseudonymised form, to improve the measurements. This consent is separate from the analysis, can be withdrawn at any time, and has no effect on the service provided. For a minor rider, their legal guardian's consent is required.
  • Uploaded content may be checked automatically (presence of a horse, inappropriate content).
  • The legal notice and terms of use are being drafted.

14. Frequently asked questions

What size of video can I send?

Up to about 4.4 GB per video, which is several tests filmed in high definition. Beyond that, use a sharing link.

The upload stopped, do I have to start again?

No. Tap "Send video" again with the same file: only the missing chunks are sent.

My video comes from WhatsApp, is that a problem?

It is accepted, but compressed: the measurements will be less precise. If possible, send the original video (see section 5).

I forgot the back of the score sheet.

Upload the score sheet photos again on the same analysis: the reading is redone with all the pages.

The score sheet reading made a mistake.

Correct the mark in the checking screen, then confirm: your confirmed version is the one that counts.

My coach cannot see my video.

Check that they have accepted the invitation, then, on the video's card, click "Choose coaches" and tick their name.

When will I get my analysis?

Beudant is in beta: the model is learning from the videos we receive. We will get back to you as soon as your analysis is ready.
